To abstain means to refrain from an activity. This can be any activity - drinking, eating junk food, picking on your little
sister, watching TV, and yes, sexual activity outside of marriage. So why would you choose sexual abstinence? There are many
reasons to go with abstinence.
You may choose to be abstinent because of your morals and values, because of your faith in God, for your own health, because of
your relationship with your family, because you have too much integrity to give your body away to anyone who is not your
spouse.
By the way, when we talk about sexual abstinence we're not just talking about intercourse - we mean all that stuff you do with
your hands, your fingers, your mouth and your private parts. All of it! Deciding to live a life of sexual integrity means that
you adhere to a code of values concerning your sexuality; that you strive to remain pure in all areas of your life so that you
protect your mind, body, heart and soul. |
